Life Lines discovered at Lost and Found Cafe
The Life Lines exhibition at the popular Lost and Found Tea Room and gallery in Penzance's chic Chapel Street reveals the latest work from the Penzance Life Drawing group. The show features a rich range of contemporary work done from the human figure, including drawings, paintings, prints, pastels, monoprints, and even works on slate and ceramics from these talented local artists, who meet each Saturday to draw from life. Life drawing is a traditional artist's discipline that keeps challenging new artists and media, as people - so far - continue to live in bodies and look at them daily with wonder.
The group include veterans of the 1990s Victoria Studios as well as fresh faces, from new generation to octogenarian, pencil to ipad, and speedy sketch to slow study. Exhibitors include Angela Stead, Lee Stevenson, Philip Maire, James Lee, Graham Hewitt, Janeve Bainbridge, Gazelle of St Ives, Keren Sutton, Clive Daniels, Roger Curtis, and many more. The group also showcase themselves on an extensive website specially created for them by TastyWebDesign.com, with galleries, profiles, exercises, a random pose generator, and even biscuit recipes for artists' tea breaks.
The Saturday morning life drawing group has been going in Penzance for almost twenty years, being a surviving offshoot of Colin Scott's Victoria Studios, which closed its doors in 1999 but lives on in many happy memories and numerous artworks.
The Lost & Found Tea Room occupies the ground Floor of the beautiful Trevelyan house, at number 16 Chapel street in Penzance. They serve yummy homemade cakes, lunches and drinks, in their cosy vintage inspired rooms. They also have a vintage shop to browse, a huge selection of cookery books, events and workshops and a diverse selection of art for sale, with regular exhibitions from local artists.
