COLLECTIVE - an exhibition of life work

UPDATE: the St Just drawing group closed down in the summer of 2017, but some of the regulars now attend the drop-in weekly life drawing in Penzance.

'Collective' is the exhibiting name of a group of some 12-15 artists who meet regularly, in St Just in West Cornwall, to work from the model.

Its nucleus was formed about eight years ago and it is now well-established - not only as a venue for painting and drawing from life but also as a forum for wide-ranging discussion on art and art practice. Reports on exhibitions visited - particularly the major London shows - generate considerable debate, and we have come to see the exchange of news, views and argument (usually over coffee!) as an important and rewarding aspect of our coming together.

The diversity of approach to the human figure, within the group, can be seen at our third exhibition scheduled to be held at the Schoolhouse Gallery, Morvah, from 12th to 25th May 2012. Opening times are 1.00 - 5.00pm on 12 May, thereafter 10.30 - 5.00, closed Mondays. The exhibition will include 3-dimensional work, and there will be a reception, with artists present, on Sunday 13 May 2.00 - 4.00, to which all visitors are invited.

Here at lifedrawing.me you can also see an interesting selection of work by the exhibiting artists.

The Gallery has a small but excellent cafe, and is situated 1 mile north of Pendeen on the B3306 coast road between St Just and St Ives. The exhibition space is on the first floor and the Gallery is equipped with a stair-lift.
