Graham Hewitt

Drawing is the basis of all painting, sculpture, architecture and every conceivable form of design. It is not an optional extra. Anyone claiming to be a visual artist must, by definition, be able to draw no matter how abstract or conceptual the end product might be. There is no substitute for drawing: no beguiling technique or instant digital effect can disguise the lack of it. Without the hand to eye co-ordination which drawing demands, visual art is an empty vessel.
